Audio and Video Recording Access
Digital Rights & Access Policy
Understanding our preservation mission, academic access guidelines, and fair use request protocols.
1. Restricted Media & Offline Collection
The Kuumbwa Jazz Archive serves as a dedicated historical repository. To protect proprietary artistic rights and adhere to institutional agreements, our audio and video recordings are not streamed publicly on this site.
While descriptive catalog information (metadata) is completely open to the public, the raw multimedia files remain available exclusively by digital request or physical appointment.
2. Academic Fair Use Framework
In accordance with Section 107 of the US Copyright Act, restricted materials may be made available to qualified researchers, educators, and students under the doctrine of Fair Use. Access is evaluated strictly for non-commercial purposes, including:
- Independent scholarly research and academic analysis
- Classroom teaching, instructional presentations, and educational critique
- Institutional reference support and citation verification
3. Takedown Policy & Copyright Inquiries
We make every effort to respect the intellectual property rights of artists, performers, and creators. If you are a copyright holder and believe that an item description or structural metadata record on this platform represents an infringement or an unauthorized disclosure, please let us know immediately.
Upon receiving a valid inquiry, our archiving administration will review the record and, if necessary, remove or amend the public data promptly while the request is evaluated.
How to Request Access
If you find a restricted asset in our catalog that you require for research, please navigate to our Contact Portal. Please include your institutional affiliation, the specific item record title, and a brief summary of your academic project scope.
